FILM Screening: Jackie Brown (1997)

Sponsored by The Wilson Company, CW's Gin Joint, and Creative Loafing Tampa.

Fresh from winning the Tampa's Downtown Partnership’s Urban Excellence award for Arts & Culture, Second Screen Cult Cinema returns to The Vault for our final screening of 2017: Quentin Tarantino’s finest (and most underappreciated) effort, Jackie Brown.

The film, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, stars the magnetic Pam Grier, the badass, boundary-breaking, female African-American action star of numerous Blaxploitation films of the 1970s (Foxy Brown, Coffy, and many more). Robert Forster, Samuel Jackson, Bridget Fonda, and Robert DeNiro make up the rest of the all-star cast.

Based on the late Floridian novelist Elmore Leonard’s Rum Punch, Jackie Brown is a character-driven “hangout” movie with elements of heist and Blaxploitation films thrown in for good measure. The soundtrack’s a blast as well.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Our cocktail hour features food, popcorn, a specialty cocktail from our co-sponsor CW's Gin Joint (now open!), and curated music selections from Second Screen-family member Brian Oblivion. Showtime will be at 7 p.m.
