Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Petersburg hosts the 2nd annual Pride Shabbat service, Friday, June 23 at 6:30pm. CBI’s Pride Shabbat celebrates equality and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, transgender, and questioning Jews, friends, families and allies and is the only synagogue-affiliated LGBTQA+ Pride event on Florida’s West Coast. Last year’s service drew more than 150 people from four counties.
The service features guest speaker Florida State Representative Ben Diamond. Born and raised in Pinellas County, Representative Diamond serves on the Board of the Tampa-Orlando-Pinellas (TOP) Jewish Federation, his synagogue board, and the Pinellas County Urban League.
Judaism teaches human beings are created b’tzelem elohim – in the image of God. CBI President Susan Marger LeVine says, “At Congregation B’nai Israel, we welcome people in the religious, social, and educational life of our congregation and believe each individual is essential to our success as a synagogue and a community. Pride Shabbat is an opportunity for the community to come together side by side to share joyous and meaningful prayer in an inclusive environment.”
Congregation B’nai Israel, 300 58th St North in St. Petersburg, is a Conservative Jewish egalitarian congregation. For more information on Pride Shabbat, CBI’s Pride Festival booth, Congregation B’nai Israel of St. Petersburg or their preschool, message us!
